Letter #54: January 28, 2013

Mom,

I’m excited to get my BD package. :)  You are such a great and wonderful mom!!  I miss you and I love you very much, too!!!  That’s crazy about Megan Brown!  Ha. Ha. I don’t know how in the world I could inspire someone to go on a mission, but hey, crazier things have happened!  We contacted some ladies from Brazil one time and sent the reference there through the church offices. Portuguese is really similar to Spanish, but it sounds super funny.

The past two weeks have been good. Crazy, but good. We moved pensions. We now live in our area. Our pension is TINY, but it works.  It’s behind the house of a less active lady.  We are trying to activate her.  She’s our new mamita and she doesn’t make inappropriate jokes, but she’s super funny and she loves us!

Last Saturday we had a really hard lesson..... This family is forming a reformation of a reformed Evangelical church.  They all had their bibles out and pulled out scripture after scripture after scripture.... It was awful.  We both left feeling completely exhausted and feeling like crap, but it was amazing how much it strengthened my testimony of being able to recognize the spirit by it’s fruits (Galatians 5:22-23).  They definitely did NOT have the spirit. And at the end of everything they asked, “And who pays your mission?......  Because we believe that the church should pay for missions and we’re looking for missionaries”...............  Uh...no thank you!  The world doesn’t need any more apostasy.

That’s cool that Brett and Rachel get to travel so much!!  I bet that they are really enjoying that!  How are Brandon and Lindsy?  And Cody, Nina, and Kids? Question. How do the condos work?  There is a family in the ward here that is planning to go to Utah next year and they want a hotel for two weeks in Salt Lake.  What are the names of condos they could look up? (No worries about info in English) Are there any cool historical church tours in Salt Lake?

So in February, our mission receives 50 new missionaries (all in one day), and 20-30 of them are sisters.  We have 18 sisters in the mission right now and two go home in February, so basically all the hermanas will be training and some will be training two at a time.... Our mission is pretty busy and crazy right now......

Anyway, I’m going to forward you the e-mails I’ve been sending to Lyndsie so you know that I’m still alive.  :) Can’t believe that she leaves in two weeks!!!
I LOVE YOU ALL SOOOO MUCH!!!!

-Hermana Hermansen

P.S. I’m in the process of writing hand written letters to the grandkids and dad.
